IBECS HMI Upgrade
Bailey Network 90 OIU Replacement
A California food processing plant recently purchased an IBECS HMI (human-machine interface) unit from CSE Engineering to interface with their Bailey Network 90 system. The Bailey Network 90 was supplied as part of the cogeneration plant that was built in 1984. While the Network 90 control equipment is still serviceable, the OIU (operator interface unit) is not. The OIU is based on obsolete technology ad is no Y2K compliant. Replacing the OIU with an IBECS system gave the customer a state-of-the-art system based on standard PC hardware.
The IBECS HMI connects to the Bailey Network 90 system though a CIU (computer interface unit) that is part of the Bailey system. In the current configuration, the IBECS system is a single operator station, but with minor additions, it could be turned into a fully redundant system capable of serving several operator stations. The newly installed system is shown next to the old OIU in the photo below.

Acceptance of the new system by the plant operators was very easy. With a minimum of training they were able to use the new system and found it easier to control the plant with the new system. A sample of the new system's graphics are shown in the figure below.
